    Baseball Team Standings

After a lot of searching, I found this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/excel-gene...standings.html

and was able to download the template used there to help me create an excel file to manage my own standings. I am using Google Doc's to upload the excel file live on the website (http://adsoftball.com/schedule/)

Here is the obstacle I have found... Was hoping someone with some experience could either help me or give me some advice on how to make this more simple cuz I think I've complicated it considerably. I'm an armature clearly - as it took me about 45 minutes to figure out how to Paste Special to get the standing/etc to work.

    Here's what I can't figure out:

    1) How to get rid of the Ties col. from the standings (cuz it's baseball we don't have any tie games - I'll live with it if it's complicated tho.)
    2) How can I calculate Runs For/ Runs Against / +/- run's in a simple way. What I'd like to do is input the score once and have it record somehow but the way I have it set up makes that impossible (I think)... I just can't for the life of me figure it out without actually going in there and typing it in each week... Which I guess would be fine...
    3) When two teams have the exact same record, is there a way to adjust the formula to take the +/- as the tiebreaker and rank teams accordingly?

Ahhhhh... Sorry so back to the 45 minutes to figure out how to paste the standings from sheet 2 into sheet 1... What a mess... I "paste special" and paste "Values & Number Format" and only just realized that I've lost the formula and when I make changes nothing happens to the standing... What am I supposed to paste (Sheet 2 to Sheet 1)

Thanks a lot for any help/advice you might be able to provide...

Attached is the file - sheet 1 is the one live online (google docs) - sheet two is the actual formula that I found in the thread above.

Thumbs up Re: Baseball Team Standings

I can't believe this - This is so much more than what I was expecting! I'm so appreciative!!! I feel horribly guilty asking you the following question because you really blew me away with what you put together!... But if you can, please help me with a couple answers.

    1) I was previously using Google Docs which was embedded onto the website for the league however, the new spreadsheet doesn't seem compatible - there are tons of errors when I upload it to GDocs. So my question is: Is there a way to make that happen and have it work with Google Sheets so I can keep my current configuration?

    2) If not, then I would embed the file into the wordpress website like I have done here: http://adsoftball.com/new-schedule/
My question is if you know a way I could separate the standings from the schedule sheet so that it all looks nice and professional on the website? Or if anyone has any ideas as to how to post this up online in the best way. (Using Google Doc Embedder on Wordpress if anyone is familiar)

    3) I'm getting an error on my computer (see attached img) when I close the excel file - I reopen and enable macros, and everything works well... I have to click on Competition Ladder for it to reset the standings tho - but no big deal on that. Just wondering if maybe that's why it's causing issues on Google Docs. (See image)

    4) One last thing... Any chance you could change where it says "Competition Ladder" to just say "Standings" When I click on it nothing happens and I can't change it.

    Re: Baseball Team Standings

G'day and thanks for the thanks.

    1) Sorry I have no googledoc experience. But at a uneducated guess...change the orientation from landscape to portrait. Cos when I changed my copy from portrait to landscape it matches what's on your website with the page breaks.

    2) That's question is for another thread. One bad idea screenshot the doc and upload the img ?

    3) That error you see is not really an error just a warning. Due to the fact I build that workbook about 5 years ago for a 97-2003 excel user and was (and still am) using 2007 to this day. Click here for more info. If that doesn't help google excel compatibility.

Not sure what's happened there. But I'd deleted what's in column K then place the following code in cell K3 and copy drag down. Oh and while your there highlight the teams in column M and colour the font white.

    4) Right click on the last letter of the text then left click once on the first letter of the text and you should have the text cursor there to (left) click and drag the text cursor across the word 'Competition Ladder' to highlight it. Now type in the word Standings then click on another cell far away for what you just did.

    Re: Baseball Team Standings

    ALL WORKED PERFECTLY...

What I decided in regards to Google Drive is that I will use the Excel file locally, publish as a website (save as) and then upload the files via ftp so it looks nice (looks better than the screen shot at least which I did try ... I'm then using an iframe to post it in Wordpress so it looks like this:

I'd love for you all to have a look at how it looks... I'm also attaching the updated Excel file that RatCat developed if anyone else needs it for a league... Works PERFECTLY...

Please have a look at the site to see the results:

    Really appreciate your help!

    Re: Baseball Team Standings

    Hello RatCat,

Here is a situation I am having... I have inputted the week 2 scores into the table - but they are not updating on the standings page. So I enable macros like usual and that updates the standings for me but doesn't reorder the standings according to the ranking.

In the past I have just clicked on the TEAM STANDING Icon thingy, and it resets - but now when I do that, it mangles everything up (actually just mangles the titles and stuff.

    Any ideas?

    Re: Baseball Team Standings

    G'day amanek,

    Thanks for the thanks.

    Try this

Right click on the word 'Team Standings' and select 'Assign Marco' then click on edit then edit both lines with ("c3:l18") to ("c3:k18"). Then close the Visual basic screen then click somewhere in the excel spreadsheet (other then the heading) then click on the heading to run the macro.

    Or download the attachment.
