Excel 2007 convert typed password with @ into email address--how to ignore

I almost solely use a spread sheet to keep track of my passwords. So even though I've been using Excel for a decade I'm essentially incompetent in its' use.

My problem is that (for example) when typing in a password in black bold size 12 type evidently the use of "@" causes excel to convert it to blue type and not bold faced.

Is there anyway to have excel ignore the @ in the cell so what I type is what I get? I've searched thru the various parts of Excel and just can't find an option to ignore the @.

Thanks for any help as this is driving me up the wall.

it is recognising the @ as part of an email/html/long address, and thats how excel shows them. Try putting a ' in before you type the rest

Thanks for the suggestion of the' unfortunately it do not work. I also eliminated the @ and that did not help.

When I had an early version of Excel there was a way to prevent excel from recognizing @ as an email address. Which also happens when I currently click on the cell with the @ in it

    Hey excel4ds,
    1. In Excel 2007, go to the Office button, and click on Excel Options.
    2. In Excel Options, click on Proofing in the left column. Then, click on the AutoCorrect Options button.
    3. In the AutoCorrect Options box, click on the AutoFormat As You Type tab. Then, uncheck the box next to Internet and network paths with hyperlinks.
    4. Click OK twice to return to Excel.

If you find you need to hyperlink text later, you can select the cell, then go to the Insert menu, and choose Hyperlink. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + K to do the same thing. In the Address field at the bottom, type in the web address. Press OK.

Hope this is what you need.
    Cheers
