How to avoid separate instances of excel.

Every time I double click on an excel file, excel is opened as a new instance. How can I stop this? I am using Excel 2010 on Windows 7 platform.

    Thank you SixthSense.

Excel opens as a new window and copy paste from one w.book to another is difficult as the paste special option won't be available. Also cannot write any formula with external reference to the other w.book.

Are these Excel files by chance on Skydrive? I have many Excel files on Skydrive and experience the problems that you are experiencing if after opening the files by double clicking, I leave the file(s) selected on Skydrive before working on the files in Excel.

This could also be a problem with the Clipboard. Check out this URL.

I could not find a proper solution for this. Finally reinstalled Office 2010 and the issue is no more.
