Isolating certain cells and then calc Sum off

    HI all,

I really hope some one can give me a quick and simply answer to this problem I have, prefer with no macros as I do not yet understand how to implement them but if a macros is the only way then please tell me how to make it work.

I am trying to isolate certain cells within a spread sheet from a very long list and those that are isolated I need then to be SUM into one cell to gain a total value of all the isolated cells.
I am basically working through a spread sheet which has £ values in column E and I am currently on Row 50000+ and what I am doing is working through the whole column E looking for certain orders and then highlighting that cell into a new colour, when I have finished I want to be able to tell the system some how to find all the cells I have highlighted in a certain colour and then to add them all together to give me a total sum, where the total goes does not matter as once I have the total I do not ever need it again.

    Any ideas please?

    Thanks.

It would be a lot more straightforward if, instead of (or as well as) highlighting each of your required summands with a colour, you made an entry alongside each in a different column.

If it weren't for the fact that you are using Excel 2003, it would have been quite simple to remedy this by filtering the column by colour and adding these extra column entries in. As it is, you'll either have to wait for someone to offer you a VBA solution, or you could send in the sheet and someone with a later version of Excel could do the filtering and prepare the extra column for you, which you can then use in future.

Assuming you've got filters on your header row, simply click the relevant one and choose Filter by Colour.
