How to Paste Special over multiple blocks

    Hi All,

I have filtered on a criterion and when I try and Alt+E+S+V to paste special, I get an error since it says the area being pasted to is not the same size. I am literally copying the area and then hitting Control C to copy the visible section, then immediately doing the paste special shortcut.

Am I missing something? Is there a different way to do this?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

If the reason you can't paste the entire unfiltered area as values is because you have formulas in that larger area, you could first do a bulk Find & Replace to replace all the "=" signs in any formulas with, say, a "#", then you can do your Paste as Values on this entire range, then replace all the "#" back to "=".

Might not be such a great solution if we're talking about an enormous number of formulas, though.

Re: How to Paste Special over multiple blocks

I'm not sure what is happening. I have it filtered. I hit copy (Control C) and it selects the filtered info. When I hit Paste Values I get the error:

The information cannot be pasted because the Copy area and the paste area are not the same size. Try one of the following: - Click a single cell and then click paste -Select a rectangle that's the same size and shape, and then paste.

But i'm not really reselecting, I'm doing your typical paste as values, where you select an item and then just paste the current selection as values. It's the same area where I'm turning all selected formulas to values.

Your solution is interesting but it's hundreds of scattered lines - I'd be better off just finding the ones that are forumlas that are complete and going and copy and pasting the blocks. It won't really work, but I appreciate the suggestion.
