website hyperlinks no longer working in Excel

Having searched for those that may have similar problems, and coming up cold, I'm hoping someone here may have a some ideas.

Using Excel for Mac 2011. Version 14.3.4

I'm on an current iMac using 10.8.3

I have several databases for which I've used the proper Hyperlink insertion mode i.e., command k, and paste. This has worked for several years, with never an issue, with links to websites always being pulled up via Safari, unless the link itself has been modified.

Beginning yesterday, every link gives the same error code: "Unable to open [link]. Cannot locate the internet server or proxy server."

Anyone have any ideas what may be going wrong.

    Thanks in advance!

I've had the same problems, and it appears that the web site has somehow "locked" me out. I'm using Excel 2011 and everything works when I go back to the 2004 Mac version. Apparently if you use the Office version, it's possible to lock you out. The issue is with Stockcharts.com, but you may have been locked out by another web site.

BTW the advice from Microsoft was to remove my version of Office and reinstall, but I didn't think that reinstalling would work and they sent at least four pages of instructions on how to remove the current version of Office and reinstall. I was/am using 14.0.0.

Strangely, updating the OS to the latest, ie. 10.8.4 seems to have fixed the problem.
