choose what formatting to print the data

I have some drop down menus created using data validation. when the cell is not selected it just looks like a blank document. When you click on the cell the drop down menu arrow becomes visual. I want to be able to show where all the drop down menus are (utilizing borders or highlighting the cells or some other method) to make it easier and clear to the user. I do not however want to print the borders, highlighting, or other formatting. I only want to print what they have selected from the drop down menu.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to accomplish this?

    Thank you

Instead of data validation, you might want to consider insering 'combo boxes' (form control)

Once inserted, right click --- format control -- properties -- uncheck print object
    Life's a spreadsheet, Excel!

I dont see a way to manually enter text with combo boxes like with data validation where they can select 1 of the options from the drop down menu or manually enter whatever they like. Also, I dont see a way to precisely adjust the placement of the combo boxes like you can with the cells. The cells print location can be adjusted by the margins, row height, column width, etc to 2 decimal places but the combo box is just put wherever you place it with the mouse and adjustments are done by hand. I dont think these will work for me but the ever-present drop down arrow is nice.

Agree the combo box has its own pros and cons and I personally prefer the simpler data validation in which case you might have to do without the ever-present drop down arrow

anyone else have any other ideas? The combo box just will not work so that is out. The data validation will not work either (imagine a blank excel sheet with 100 different sized hidden drop down locations.

I basically have a bunch of square stickers on a 8.5x11 sheet that I am printing on and I was thinking I could make a border that would print but make the border larger than the sticker so that it would print but the area where it would print would be on the area that remains / gets thrown away after I peel the sticker off, but some of the stickers are directly next to each other so this would not work either. I also tried to make the cell a light color and print it out black/white, but it still printed a light shade of gray.
