Question Conditional formatting query (i think)

    Hello ExcelForum

I work in a college and am in the process of creating a new marksheet. This is attached. There is a tab for each of the modules (four) and one 'overview' tab that collates that information.

I've basically got it working how I wanted but there are two bits that I think conditional formatting (based on a formula) can be used for but my attempts at writing a formula to do so have failed.

    1)
On the 'overview' tab I would like the assignment mark cells to be highlighted if the student has submitted Exceptional Circumstances (EC's; columns D and J on the module tabs). For example, on the attached mark sheet cell D11 has 'Yes' in the EC's column so on the 'overview' tab cell B13 would be highlighted. (the cells would be empty if no EC's were submitted)

    2)
This is similar actually but for the hand in columns (C and I on the module tabs). If there is no hand in date entered (cell would be empty) I would like the corresponding cell on the 'overview' tab to be highlighted.

Does that all make sense? Can this be done? Or am I trying to make this too complicated?
If conditional formatting can't be used, is there a different way?

Any help appreciated. I am using Excel 2010.

    Hi
You need to use Conditional Formatting for this. For the example you gave the formula in Conditional Formatting would be:

    =PAPD!$D$15="Yes"

You can use this approach for the second item also.
    Hope this helps.
    Good luck.

    Thanks ARGK. That works perfectly.

I was thinking I needed to use an IF formula. No wonder I couldn't get it to work!
