Unable to use cell lock feature - XL2010

I have tried to use the cell lock feature any number of times following a variety of directions, but it just will not work. Others at my work place have tried and failed as well.

Is there a setting somewhere that is prohibiting this from working?

Hi

I think Locking cells is a dual action process.

First lock the cells that you want to protect.

Second Protect the sheet specifying how the locked cells will operate.

Yes you lock the cells by right clicking and clicking on the protection tab and selecting locked.

Then protect the sheet selecting the option that the option cannot click on a locked cell.
