Goal Seek not working on 1 PC but works fine on another?

    Hi there,

We have a spreadsheet that we need to do a Goal Seek on. My colleague ran the Goal Seek and the window said that it had found a solution, and yet the resulting number hadn't changed.

I opened the exact same spreadsheet on my PC and did the exact same Goal Seek to find that it worked perfectly.

I'm guessing therefore that there is something in his settings that means it isn't running - can anyone offer any advice? (I have already checked that the calculation options are set to Automatic)

We are both using MS Excel 2007.

    Thanks,
    Jenny

Well, what's Goal Seek in your file? Is it a function or a macro?

Also, it would be really helpful if you could provide a copy of that file so that we could test it (please remove any available sensitive data, if any) or simply explain its working so that we get the right idea of what does that function or macro do..

Apologies! It was the basic function (What If Analysis - Goal Seek)

I have attached the file. We wanted to change cell E18 on the 'QM' tab to be £29600.45 by changing the value in cell O14 on the 'UK Main#1' tab.

As I said, this worked fine on my computer but didn't do a thing on my colleagues.

The sheet wasn't my creation - the creator is a bit old school so that might be why!

I got the same result - I know it's not the workbook that's the problem - I think it's his Excel settings?

Yep, I got 59.4% as well. Works like a charm!

Well, while surfing over the issue, I only came a similar one, where the Goal Seek was not able to find a solution which was basically due to an option checked - which was "Set precision as displayed" under Formula options or Advanced for 2007/2010. Simply un-checking it would give the solution. I know this is not the case here, but just thought of sharing it for informational purposes.

Try giving another shot on his system. I don't think there's anything wrong with the file - but can be his application, maybe some options or corruptions somewhere.

That didn't work... however it was in the same area. The Max change was at 252 rather than the 0.001 that my PC was showing. I changed his to match mine and it worked perfectly!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction :o)
