    Excel 2013 Forms

    Hi,

I'm new to the forums and not particularly skilled in Excel. Apparently, I've made an error in judgement. I've created an Excel form and used checkboxes, which I later found out was not the way to go. My problem is two-fold. 1) The spreadsheet is incredibly laggy, and 2) The checkboxes don't appear to be located w/in actual cells. In other words, when this spreadsheet is opened on a system w/ a different screen resolution, the spreadsheet resizes, and the checkboxes are outside the lines of the particular cell that they were originally created in. I read online about both of these issues, and there was mention that Active X controls are way to go to create spreadsheets of this type. Therefore, I have two questions:

    1) Is it possible to simply transfer the information that I have into an Active X-type spreadsheet? Or, if not transfer the info, convert it?

    2) If this isn't possible, would someone please be kind enough to provide me w/ instructions on how to go about creating an Active X-type spreadsheet, which allows for the functionality that I seek?

    Thank you!

    Jeff

    Re: Excel 2013 Forms

Welcome to the Forum! There can never be enough Jeffs.

There are two types of controls available in Excel. One is the older Forms type of control. The other is the newer ActiveX controls. Most common controls are available in both versions (checkboxes, radio buttons, listboxes, text boxes, combo boxes, buttons, etc.) There is no such thing as an ActiveX spreadsheet, only individual ActiveX controls.

There is no easy way to convert existing Forms controls to ActiveX controls. It might be possible with macros but I don't know if anybody has actually written one to do that. The more direct approach is to re-create each control.

By the way I have had several issues with resizing of controls when I plug my laptop to an external monitor with higher resolution. I exclusively use ActiveX controls, so this may not solve your problem. Could you share any links where you have read about these issues?

FWIW there are far more problems using ActiveX controls on worksheets than Forms controls, active X just never play nicely and you get all sorts of nasty resizing issues. I've experienced this and it's quite a common problem, when using Forms controls, you have a far better experience. So I'd say that actually you went the right way with Forms controls over activeX

On the same note, activeX also resizes when simply undocking my laptop from my monitors to the native resolution. Projectors also cause the issue. It is extremely annoying as there isn't anything you can do about it except use a macro to force a resize. I think one pixel larger then one pixel smaller is what most do.

Oh and one last thing, I have noticed far more crashing of excel 2013 with form controls than with activeX... For what it's worth.

Here is a requested link on the magical resizing buttons.

swatisabloor, please take the time to review our rules. There aren't many, and they are all important.

First, your question is not specific enough to try to answer. What exactly is your problem/question? Solution for what?

Second, unfortunately your post does not comply with Rule 2 of our Forum RULES. Do not post a question in the thread of another member -- start your own thread.

If you feel an existing thread is particularly relevant to your need, provide a link to the other thread in your new thread.

Old threads are often only monitored by the original participants. New threads not only open you up to all possible participants again, they typically get faster response, too.
