    IF and fill colour

    Hello good people,

I want to have a cell if empty have a red fill in it and when something is written in the cell the fill is clear.

I thought something like =IF (E4="","RED","CLEAR") but I do not know or cannot find the correct way to get fills

Please help. It is only direct cells not conditional format for all empty cells

    Thanks

    Re: IF and fill colour

Do you know how to use Conditional Formatting?

If yes highlight your range and in conditional formatting rules, put this formula.

    =$E4=""

    Choose red color>>OK.

How can you use Conditional Formating.

--In Excel 2007 and 2010, Conditional Formatting is in the Styles group on the Home tab. In Excel 2003, Conditional Formatting is on the Format menu. See here how you can work using CF.

    Re: IF and fill colour

    Thanks for that it worked.

I also found another way selecting if cell equals blanks, but have to select the cells you want it to work on before entering the conditional formatting.
