Date and Text Filter

Hello,

I have a several thousand rows of cells that contain a "Date" field that I want to filter. When applying the filter I would like to sort by month but for some reason Excel is applying a Text Filter. I have formatted all Date Cells to be *Date, and if I individually click into each cell and then press enter, it will change that cell's filter to a Date filter, is there anyway I can do this for all?

Perhaps select the entire column containing dates - Then Data - Text to columns - Finish. All dates should now be right-aligned ( if no custom alignment)
You can now filter/sort as needed

If it doesn't work post a sample sheet ( no pics please)
