Find average of different wave lengths

    Hi every one,

I have attached an excel file. What I would like to find is the average of column D (number) with respect to column A (Genotype ) and also different wave length (Column C).
ie; Genotype 1 to its corresponding value in column D for wavelenghth 450
Genotype 1 to its corresponding value in column D and for Wave length 470 to and so on.

Thanking you advance for your replies.

Re: Find average of different wave lengths

Put 450 in F2 and 470 in F3, then you can have this formula in G2:

    =AVERAGEIF(C:C,F2,D:D)

which can be copied into G3 to give you a little summary table (with headers in row 1).

You may need to change the commas to semicolons.

    Hope this helps.

Re: Find average of different wave lengths

    Hi every one,

Thanks for the reply. But i have 2 variables here depending on which the average should be calculated. Sorry, i didn't mentioned it before.

Thanks in advance for your reply

Re: Find average of different wave lengths

Okay, put the numbers 1, 6, 14 and 15 in cells F2:F5 (these being the Genotypes), and put 450 in G1 and 470 in H1 (wavelengths), then you can put this formula in G2:

(again, you may need to change the commas to semicolons). Then you can copy this into H2 and copy G2:H2 down to row 5.

    Hope this helps.
