Formatting not updating upon data connection refresh

I have an external data connection to update my excel file from Sharepoint. I have two columns of numbers that have been formatted as "Number". When I refresh the data, the columns still show formatted as "numbers" but they do not update until you double click in the cell. I know there are several ways to update this, but I cannot do this every time as it is being posted on Sharepoint and updated by others. A pivot table is also linked to this data and when the entire file is refreshed, the pivot calculations will not occur.

I think I am having a similar issue. For whatever reason, some of my columns are being stored as text despite the fact that they are being stored as numbers in their original worksheet. Have you found a solution?
