workbook contains links that cannot be updated (and its not in names)

Ok this has been driving me mad for months. I have 2 workbooks which link to 15-20 other workbooks using various formulas. Every single time I open either of these workbooks, it asks me if I want to update links, I say update, and it then says the workbook has links which cannot be updated. I click edit links only to find that every single link listed is showing as ok, and all the data in the sheet seems to have refreshed just fine.

I know that this can often be solved by deleting Names in the Name Manager (excel 2010) but I have now done this (there were many bad links in it) and the ONLY 'Name' I now have in either workbook is the print area one which I also tried deleting. Yet it STILL complains about links it cannot update.

I have only 2 sheets in each file, and checked the Names on both sheets. I have no charts in the file and no objects either.

Any ideas?

ok may be getting somehwhere. I found an addin called findlinks which lists all the links. it has found a load of "hidden Name" entries with ref errors which I dont even want in the workbook. but I dont know how to do anything with these, they do not appear in the name manager!

*edit* ok sorted it, found a vba macro to unhide hidden Names, did that, deleted these hidden names, now I dont get that error anymore!! w00h000
