Column and Line width - Unexplained Locking after viewing budget and calendar templates

I am an occasional Excel user.

A few days ago I prepared a household budget and financial appraisal for my daughter.

During the work I routinely adjusted column and line widths using group methods (highlight columns, right click, select column and line width).

Last night I looked at Excel's budget and calendar templates and downloaded a few for closer inspection. They didn't suit my purpose so I cancelled these and started to prepare my own sheet. I found that the column widths and line widths had locked. I could, however, still alter the columns and lines individually by dragging.

I loaded the work I did for my daughter from a memory stick and found that the widths could be altered individually but not as a group.

I have looked at the protection option but this does not appear to be in place.

I have loaded the MS Office disc and used the repair function but the problem still exists.

I would be grateful for your advice. Does anyone recognise the problem. Is it something simple I am missing. Could there be a program corruption.

Problem Solved. Well to be frank, I'm not sure what I've done. I loaded the MS disc again and this time entered the product key and I know I selected Excel somewhere in the sequence. Tried a spread sheet again afterwards and all appears OK.
