    Matching columns

    matching columns.xlsx
    Hi all

    Stuck on this one...
Here I have names appearing more than once in a column against many subjects. I'd like to match grade 1 and 2 to names and subjects that match. I have the desired outcome beneath the top 2 tables.

    Ta in advance

    Kevin

    Re: Matching columns

OK, I see it are 2 differant questions.

You can solve this with Vlookup.

    See the attached file.

The red text don't match, because you have (extra) spaces in the red cells.

    Re: Matching columns

    Hi
Ok I have replied to the previous post and thanks it works great.

This current post is completely different, I'd like to take 2 different columns with names and subjects that match with grade 1 and 2 differing. If both name and subject do not appear in both tables then they can be discarded.

Any help on the code would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Matching columns

    See my answer in #3.

I noticed there are people in list grade 2, which are not in list grade 1.

You don't want them to show up? (you don't added them in the desired result)

    EDIT:

Your profile say you use Excel 2003.

    You posted Excel 2007 files.

Maybe you could change the profile.

    Re: Matching columns

Then you need the names to be exact the same, otherwise you get the faillure like the red cells.

You can do that using datavalidation.

    Excel 2007 => data => datavalidation.
