need to duplicate information in different rows

    Hi Excel forum:
I have a spreadsheet with info in A5..D5 that I need to duplicate in Row 6, 7, 8 and 9. Then new data appears in A10..D10 to be copied to A11..D11, 12, 13, and 14, etc. to line 600 without disturbing the data in E5..J5, E6..J6, etc. any ideas?

    Hi qmaster2012

    Welcome to the forum.

    select A6:D30
    Ctrl+g (Go to)
    Special
    Blanks
    press =
    press up arrow
    Alt + Enter

If you need the formulas to be values: select A6:D30, copy, paste special - values

Someone won a prize for this recently (sorry I do not recall who) but I do not mind telling you as I was already aware of it.

    Regards
    Alastair

Thanks so much for the help Alastair. I did try the formula you had and I'm sure it was operator error on my part but I couldn't get it to work. After I chose blanks I had to press enter and I was getting an error message that the cells were not found and it would not go further. I did find a solution though working in collusion with a friend who was not available at the time I posted. In L6 I entered =IF(LEN(A6)>0,A6,L5) and copied it from A6:D30, so if it was a blank cell, it came out with all of the info from the previous line. If it was populated it just copied the information from that line. Then it was just a matter of doing a copy, paste special, values back into the original data cells.

Re: need to duplicate information in different rows

    Hi qmaster2012

Be of good cheer - it was not operator error! The cells (A7:D10 for instance) which appear to be blank are not really blank, and so will not be selected by Ctrl+g > special > blank.

I thought that it was as a result of being sent over the internet, but apparently not!

Sorry to have caused any consternation, but I'm glad that you found an answer.

    Regards
    Alastair

Re: need to duplicate information in different rows

There was something in those "blank" cells but I couldn't find out what. If the "blank" cells were selected then deleted, they then became truly blank. There was something in those cells but it is a mystery to me what it was.

    Alastair, instead of Alt+Enter

    select A6:D30
    Ctrl+g (Go to)
    Special
    Blanks
    press =
    press up arrow
    Ctrl + Enter

At least, that is what works on my computer.

    @newdoverman

Thanks for that - I keep getting those pesky keys confused! Why do they put them so close?

I'm glad someone else could not work out what was in those cells

    Regards
    Alastair

Re: need to duplicate information in different rows

From what I could find out, there was something in those cells that is not in the normal character set so, using =code() would produce an error. The trick would be to find out what character set was being used.
