Excel Table Requiring Blank Row For Expressions To Work

    Good Morning,

I have this workbook that looks up data in Overview, Calendar, SupShfits and Location worksheets from an "Employees" tab (table). If I have a blank row (row 2), it works fine. If I remove the blank row, I get errors on the formulas in the previously mentioned tabs. I'm not understanding why I get errors. Any ideas or information are greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Jan

    Hi jcaynes,

You have to delete the entire row 2 not just delete data from the cells. But most problems that you have, and I believe you don't even suspect, are the errors in formulas and ranges that lead to erroneous information. Your VLOOKUP formulas on "DATA" tab are missing FALSE return type and also look up data in column "B" starting with cell B4 instead of B2. These type of errors are all across your "DATA" tab. On other sheets your formulas that included INDEX function starts with range 1 instead of 2 and so on. I suggest, you should carefully review each tab for consistency and accuracy.

    Best regards.

    Hi Alkey,

Thanks so much for the pointers, I'm sure that will help me improve my skills with this. I will make the updates and then try deleting the top row again and see what happens.

    I appreciate the feedback!

I guess I was just brain dead on this... The vlookups were based on the wrong row and I have no idea why that happened, but once that was corrected, the errors disappeared. I will still review the other information provided, but the immediate issue was addressed. Thanks so much!

There is a lot of data in your workbook. It will take time to go through all tabs to trace and adjust all references.

    Best of luck!

Re: Excel Table Requiring Blank Row For Expressions To Work

    AllKey,

I discovered that the Excel tables don't update cell references in formulas unless using DAX language for expressions. Interesting, and easily corrected. Now I can sort my little heart away and it updates appropriately. Very odd!

    Thanks again!
