Conditional formatting: Cell is higlighted if it contains text from another cell

Hi,

I'd like to add conditional formatting so that a cell is higlighted (A2) if it contains text from another cell (A1.)

Example:

A B
1. ADP062 QAP001 Rev K CR1726
2. ADP063 ADP063 Rev B CR2284
3. ADP067 ADP067 Rev C CR2695

What should happen is that B2 and B3 are highlighted, but B1 is not.

Currently I have this formula

Specific text containing =$A$2, but it only highlights one cell and not the entire sheet where the rule applies.

Thanks for the help!

I figured out the first part, Specific text = A2 rather than $A$2, but a new question arose.

I need to highlight a cell in Column B if it contains text from any cell in Column A.

A1 = ADP062
B1 = QAP001 Rev K CR1726
A2 = QAP001
B2 = ADP063 Rev B CR2284

Cell B1 would be lighted because QAP001 is found in A2.

Hi and welcome to the forum

This is 1 of those times where copy/pasting your info to here, doesnt show real well where 1 cell ends and the next begins

I would suggest uploading a sample workbook
To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

Regards

An attachment would help, but I think your second example helps clear up where the cell boundaries are.

I would use "Use a formula to determine which cells to format", use this formula, and apply it to $B:$B

Formula: copy to clipboard

Edit: Well, on second look I am more confused because in your first example you were comparing the value in column B to the value in column A in the same row. In your second example you are comparing B! to A2--different rows.

I second the motion to provide a file and manually highlight it the way you want it to look.
