Create simple sub totals within a column of #s without double adding the individual #s

I have a list stocks for about 30 different companies. Within each company listing, there are multiple records of stock purchase. I want to do summation of all the entries with a subtotal every time the name of the company changes without the grand total double adding the sub totals in the grand total. I suspect this is rather basic but I can't figure out how to write the formula that will do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Bob S,

I would create a Pivot Table (Insert Ribbon -> Pivot Table) and summarize it the way you want. It works great for subtotals and totals, and it is always good to seperate raw table data from reporting.
