Chart Data Labels on a protected sheet

    Hi -

I'm using Excel 2010 and I've got a chart on a worksheet and the worksheet needs to be protected. I'm able to manipulate the chart in any fashion EXCEPT the position of the Data Labels. Is this a bug in Excel 2010?

Anybody know of a work around using VBA code?

    thanks,

    GRC

    Hi,

Works as I'd expect with my 2010.
Where are you trying to locate your data labels? The menu allows for Centre, Inside End, Outside End, and Inside Base

Why do you mention a protected sheet. Clearly if it's protected you won't be able to manipulate things as you would if it's unprotected.

    Hi,

Yes, you are correct, using the menu does work, but you can't move the Data Labels using the mouse. I know that the end users are going to want this feature.

Regarding the Sheet Protection: I've got the sheet protection set to allow for 'Edit Scenarios'; 'Edit Objects' and 'Select Unlocked cells'. So, when the sheet is protected, I can edit all aspects of the chart except move the Data Labels with the mouse. This is the only thing I can't do (thought this was very strange).

    Hi,

You can move individual labels with the mouse but not all together. The sheet needs to be unprotected.

No doubt a VBA procedure could be written to loop through all the labels but what rules would you want to determine the distance from the top / left positions for each of the labels?
