    Excel on the Trading Floor - 2003, 2007, 2010 or 2013 ???

I am still using Excel 2003 to automate a bunch of trading stuff and I am very happy with it (My IT isn't but it is what it is...).
By happy I mean that I understand its limitations and over the years have become very efficient at getting around them and getting Excel to do almost anything I want.
I write plenty of VBA and C++ for Excel and acknowledge that I am pushing against the limits of what this (excellent) tool was designed to do.

    I din't migrate to 2007 for 2 main reasons.
    1) The brains at MS changed all the menus and short-cuts (I hardly use the mouse in 2003)
    2) The charts were unacceptably slow to render for my needs

At the time I felt strongly enough about the above that I didn't waste time investigating any further what other nasty surprises 2007 may have had in store.
However, we are now in 2013 and with MS abandoning support for 2003 next year, the time may have come for me to bite the bullet and choose the next Excel version to put through its paces.

But which is the best Excel for traders and/or quants? 2007, 2010 or 2013.

Please forgive me if this topic has already been covered elsewhere. My searches haven't had much success so I thought I'd post this. I'd be happy to be pointed to relevant previous posts if they exist.

    Thank you all

I still use Excel 2002 as my default version. I can "operate" it with my eyes closed!

Excel 2013 is slower than the other versions so if speed is your primary concern then maybe go with Excel 2010.

Some things are very hard to find in Excel 2013!

Being as Excel 2007 is the first version with the ribbon, it's probably the version to avoid the most. Personally, I hate the ribbon. Makes the application look like a childs video game.

Oh, I almost forgot the most important reason why you shouldn't use Excel 2013...

Excel 2013 has this annoying "feature" where the data in the cells does this sort of "rolling" effect. Sort of like an old fashioned gas pump where the numbers on the dial roll.

It's called cell animation and if you do a Google search on "excel 2013 cell animation" you'll see how many folks loathe this new "feature". Most of the links are about how to disable this "feature".

I should go for the latest version.
It is now 2013, so you worked 10 years with version 2003
If you change to 2007 then you should change again in 4 years.
If you change to 2013 then you could work again 10 years with this version.

    Change overs are always complicated.
    So less changes are beter.

I use 2007 (at work), and 2007 and 2000 (at home). It took me a while to get used to the ribbon - and the new layout - but once you get used to it, I actually prefer the new layout, and now have to top and think about where the equivalent thing is in 2000.

I have heard that 2010 is better than 2007, but that 2013 has some annoying "upgrades" and is slower in some situations. I have 2010 at home and will install that soon, but I think I will hold off on 2013
