    Scrollable Date bar/cells, Conditional Formatting

Hi there I was hoping someone would be able to identify how the scrolling date bar in the attached is achieved. I am not asking for a step by step with code I am just after the basics of how this was achieved and i will research the rest. Most importantly is how to associate the dates with the rest of the cells in the column, as I imagine this is how I am going to fill the cell...The purpose is to add this scrolling date bar to my workbook, also attached. This is a for fun project, just trying to teach myself some skills...
    Thanks,gantt-chart_L.xlsCopy of Resource Allocation.xls

Re: Scrollable Date bar/cells, Conditional Formatting

You can't see the content of K1 but go ahead and select K1 and look in the formula box. Then scroll the bar and you will see the number in the formula box going up and down. The scroll bar is using K1 as a linked cell to contain the value of the scroll bar, which is an integer in a range that can be configured.

The dates shown in row 9 are based on formulas in row 8. The first formula, in L8, adds the value of K1 to the project start date in C7. Therefore, when you scroll the bar you are adding (or subtracting) more delta and the dates are being updated. The color bars are done with conditional formatting based on the dates, so that is all updated automatically.

All of this gives the optical illusion of movement to the left or right but in reality the only thing happening is that the dates in L9:II9 are being updated.

Thank you so much for the explanation!

I have actually come a long way on my workbook and opted not to use this embedded scroll bar. I'm going to stick to the basics for now. I really do appreciate your time as I now have the opportunity to learn more and have a better understanding of it. Thanks again!
