Correcting pre-existing numbers when Excel changes the last digit to 0

    Hello,

I understand that excel will only work to the 15th persision and have adjusted my workbook accordingly to correctly display numbers going forward.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/78113

I would like to change the few hundred enteries that have already been entered on a previous date to show the correct values. Simply changing the column to 'text' or setting the precision as displayed does not seem to change those numbers.

1.In Excel 2013 and 2010, click File, and then Options, and then click the Advanced category.
2.In the When calculating this workbook section, select the workbook you want, and then select the Set precision as displayed check box.

Any ideas? Or am I stuck with a bunch of 'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0'

    Thank you,
    Doug

What is the value of the cell? and what do you want it to look like? A copy of the spreadsheet would help.

If you know what the last digit should be then you can use this to add that digit in place of the 0 which will replace the 0 with the digit in column B. This will result in a text number. If you don't know what that digit should be then you are up the creek.

    Hi dleemad,

As you already mentioned the 15 digit precision does indeed replace any numbers over that amount with 0's with no way of retrieving the lost numbers. The solution moving forward would be to set your sheet format to TEXT and paste such values as a String as opposed to a Number.
