Running a shortcut as a template requires path to excel- different users = different path?

I'm running a shortcut as a template and set it up with the following target:

    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE" /t "N:\File.xlsx"

This opens fine for me from the network on which the shortcut is placed, but other users get an error because the their excel target is different-such as:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE"

How can I make it so that all users may use shortcut, which must stay on the network?

You may want to have the shortcut point to a .bat file on the network that checks for the existence of the preferred path. If the preferred path doesn't exist look for alternate paths to EXCEL.EXE until there is a successful path. If there is no successful path, then the .bat file has to be updated for another permutation.
