What am I doing wrong with this CHITEST?

    Hello Excel forum,

I am trying to perform a CHITEST on the following date:

I know CHITEST's are normally used to compare statistical significance of larger arrays of data, but what am I doing wrong here? Is there a different way I need to format my data in order to perform this test?

    Many thanks

    Alan

bump. Apparently there was an answer but it has been removed.

    Hi,

I've used chitest probably only a couple of times.

As far as I know function does not work properly without reading at least 2 rows of data.

    Again, I could be wrong.

    Regards

Re: What am I doing wrong with this CHITEST?

As noted, the CHITEST() function is designed to be used on the raw data.

I don't do very many chisquared tests, so I guess I'm not really enough of a statistician to really tackle your question. My stats text indicates that the formula for chisquare is sum((a-e)^2/e) where a is actual and e is expected values for each "category" being studied..

Your example only shows one data point, so I'm not sure what a chisquare test looks like for one data point. It would be easy enough to calculate (a-e)^2/e for the given data point, but, with only one point, there is 0 degrees of freedom, and I don't think you can compute the rejection region for df=0.

So, it looks to me like you are on the right track, but that your chisquare problem is incompletely stated. Once you get a complete statement for the problem, you should then be able to apply the above formula (or maybe then use the CHITEST() function) to compute the test statistic.

You have quoted SHG wold be handy if he could weigh in, I seem to remember he is particularly good with numbers.
