    Cannot unhide rows (again)

I've seen several postings here regarding this problem but none that seem to explain away this problem. I've inherited a spreadsheet that has a hidden row. These are the characteristics of the problem:

    - Row 3 is hidden
    - Sheet is not protected
    - I can Goto the row and change its size from 0 to another value and the row becomes visible
    - Rows 2 and 3 appear to be blue (as if displaying filtered results)
    - Autofilter does not appear to be on (no columns have the filter dropdown) and the option is not checked in the menu for autofilter
    - Data/Filter/Show All option is available and upon selection will also make row 3 visible
    - The workbook contains no macros or hidden sheets

So, my issue is not how to reveal the rows, but rather why the rows are being hidden in the first place. Is there some other filtering mechanism that I am not aware of?

Also, Excel has not been upgraded in the lifetime of the sheet, however there may be users with Office 2003 that may have viewed or edited the sheet, but this is unlikely ( I am using Office XP).

    AutoFilter vs. Advanced Filter

It sounds like an advanced filter was used and that is why rows were hidden without the dropdown arrows showing in the column headers. When using advanced filters, you specify a range to filter your data by, and it hides the rows that don't match (highlighting some other rows in blue). If you go to Data - Filter - Advanced Filter, you can see the range that's being used.

That sounds like a plausible explanation, but I cannot seem to duplicate the problem to figure out how this situation was originally created.

Looking at the advanced filter, I see that $A$1:$T$3 is specified as the List Range, but no criteria is specified. If I "Show All" and then attempt to set up the same scenario using an identical Advanced filter, the row indicated in the original posting does not disappear again. I've also tried setting this up, saving, closing and re-opening the sheet to see if the filter's initial evaluation causes the problem. This also does not recreate the problem.
