Opening converted Excel 2010 file takes longer time to open compared to Excel 2003 file

    Opening converted Excel 2010 file takes longer time to open compared to Excel 2003 file

    When opening the Excel 2003 version of the workbook it roughly takes 5 seconds to open. This is about 60 MG in file size. We convert this to Excel 2010 and now it roughly takes about 17 seconds to open. This is about 14 MG in file size.

    It doesn't have any AutoOpen macro. It doesn't have any conditional formatting. I am opening both workbooks from the C: drive and not the network.

    Any ideas what's causing the Excel 2010 file to take a longer time to open?

    Are your computer specs near the minimum for running Excel 2010?

    Describe your computer system and the operating system you are using including whether or not you are running 64 bit or X86.

    Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010
    Version 14.0.6129.5000 (32bit)

    Windows 7 Enterprise
    Version 6.1 (Build 7601 service pack 1)
    Intel Core i5 - 3320M CPU @ 2,60 GHz
    Installed memory 4.00 GB (3.87 GB usable)
    64 bit operating system

    The basic minimum requirements for Windows 7 are:

    1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
    • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
    • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit
    • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

    The 4 GB ram is a bit "skimpy" and that may account for some of the slowness in opening. The rest seems ok to me.
