reorganizing data to show info from two separate columns in a third new column

    Hi,

I'm not sure if what I'm trying to do is possible but it would make my analysis so much simpler if it is!

I've got a problem with organizing my data. I've performed a study with several participants, each of which does several trials with 8 conditions (1,2,3,4,5,6,7, or 8), with each participant doing a condition more than once. I also have a separate column telling me whether they responded correctly or incorrectly (with a 1 or a 0).

I need to find a way to produce a new column to identify whether they got each condition (of the conditions 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, or 8) correct separately, i.e one column for responses to condition 1, one for condition 2 and so on....

It would also be useful if there was a way that once this is done I could summarize their accuracy of responses to each condition.

I've attached an example of my data, if anyone can help it would be really appreciated!

    Thanks

this looks like its along the right lines, but is there a way to get their responses (i.e. 0 or 1) moved/shown into the new column for the different conditions separately(i.e. condition 1 = 1,0,1,1,1....) as opposed to adding together how many times they got each one right?

So you want to group the results by participant and condition so it would look something like

    participant # codition # 0 0 1 0 0 ...

    Sorry some labeling is needed.

    Shaded in yellow
column D is key for the macro to locate the participant and the t2 value row (internal use)
column E is the column that will have the answer value of the probe
column F contains the participant ID
    Column G the t2 value
Column H....and beyond the various responses

brilliant I think that works then, but how do I set up the macro/add it to my full data set?

Now the cleanup phase kicks in. lThe results should go in another worksheet, so you can enter the results freely. The macro as it is written now will read as far down as there is data. are the fields the same in the real data?

Re: reorganizing data to show info from two separate columns in a third new column

that would be fantastic thanks, I've attached a template with all the columns I have in my output, the ones with numbers in down to cell 97 in columns h and l are the ones which I need to then be displayed as we've discussed in columns r-y please.

    thank you so much!
