Auto Fill Cell With Today's Date And Shift Cells To The Right

I'm trying to create a log sheet / check-list for work.

• I need the history to be preserved as the dates go on
• I need the latest dates to show in column D
• The current date needs to be easily inputed

Does anyone have any ideas?

In the file attached C4:E6 would need to be updated to look like C2:E3.

That Is amazing! Thank you so much. I've never used Macro's before. I need to insert a column before C, but it interfere's with them. I've tried editing the macro but it didn't work for some reason. Could you insert a column?

I start editing cells, then it keeps giving me, run-time error '13': type mismatch.

Then It all stops working.

Does this latest one work with column D? I find it didn't even when I inserted the cells

Sorry about that. I'd forgotten that column C was hard coded in the macro.

I've made it a variable now and set a variable name in the Excel sheet. See attached

Wow, now that works well. One last thing :S I'm going to be using this with different clients so I'll need to filter them. When I turn on the filter it doesn't work and gives me "run time error:1004 insert method of range class failed". that's way above me.

Do you think I should learn how to do these macros? if so, do you know of a good place to start learning?

How and what are you flltering since I don't find any problem.

If you are going to rely on workbooks that have macros then it's certainly a good idea that you have at least a basic understanding of what makes them tick. As for learning, well we're all different. Some prefer to go on courses, others prefer to get stuck in obviously starting with very simple stuff, make lots of mistakes and ask questions in forums like this.

The first place to start is the macro recorder. Create macros for a few simple tasks like copying or filtering data and study the code you get. When you understand the syntax and what specific code instructions are doing then start to modify the code. Usually the first thing to do is think about creating variables so that you can generalise code since the macro recorder only captures very specific stuff like selected ranges.

Buy a book that explains the basics of VBA / Macros and repeat the examples that will come with that. And of course follow threads here and watch the answers as they modify and adapt things.

Okay, I'll have to get into it. I have several things on the ropes to learn, like CSS and html, but i definitely want to at least get the basics. Toying around with the record and the forums definitely seems more my style. Thanks!

I tried adding the filter, it didn't give me an error but it seems as though it just turns off.
