Find centre of 6 figure National Grid References

    Hi,

Is it possible to find the centre point of these 6 figure National Grid References (sample)

    345723 842214
    346094 842080
    346087 842611
    346359 842379
    346502 841967

These are point on a map - these points will vary and the number of point will vary too,

    Cheers

Re: Find centre of 6 figure National Grid References

    Hi,

If these references are posts in the ground at the given NGR what is the position I would have to stand to be bang in the middle of all of them - hope this makes sense,

    Cheers

Re: Find centre of 6 figure National Grid References

Well, unless they all happen to lie on the circumference of the same circle that won't be mathematically possible.

You will have to come up with a different definition of "bang in the middle". So that the average distance from all points is minimized, perhaps? Although I can imagine that this also would give rise to not just one, but a locus of points...

    Please clarify.

    Regards

Standing at the average of the easting and northing minimizes the total distance to all.
