    Inventory Mangement - Barcode Scanner

So I have searched and read the other topics about this. It is all over my head for sure.

The topic I found most helpful was this one:
    http://www.excelforum.com/excel-gene...ode-input.html

Also this one looks REALLY nice but trying to sort out how to make this work:
    http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/excel-q...scanner-3.html

His sheet mostly does what I am looking for.

I have a list of Products, with Product name, SKU numbers, Barcode numbers and quanity. I want to scan items out and in (sold or ordered in) which his form does. The main difference is I want to be able to set "Sell" or "Stock" mode and leave that as a toggle without having to click Add or Subtract buttons each time.

So in other words. During the days I don't receive any stock I would set it to "Sell" Mode. Scanning an item would find that barcode and subtract one from the stock.

NOW, after thinking about that I realized it wouldn't be possible as I need the input boxes to pop up for the forumals and such to work.

So my alternative solution would be just to be able to scan in more than one item at a time. Maybe scanning the item, hitting OK, then the dialog pops back up so I can keep scanning items? A second end button to end the dialogue box?

So lost. I was going to buy a scanner that came with software but realized I could use excel and just get a cheap barcode scanner.

Any help would be appreciated. I am trying to learn and figure it out on my own as always..but am a complete newbie when it comes to VBA and formulas.

    Thanks!

    Edit:
I am adding the file I currently use. What I do now is that I just hand write down any items sold throughout the day. At the end I go into this form and I subtract manually how many I sold. On the right it tells me how many to order based on my Full Stock number (Stock to)

What I need is to be able to Scan a barcode and it automatically removes 1 from that item in the list. Also ability to subtract would be helpful but not necessarily required because when I order I always order to my stock to values, so normally once my order is placed I just reset the form (which is why there is a reset button). This would work since I do this daily..

Thanks again. I will keep looking at it meanwhile.

How does the data show up when you scan it? Does the barcode automatically show up in the active cell?

If this is the case, then create a sheet for orders and a sheet for sales. When you order items, ensure the "Order" sheet is active. Same for sales.

Then have a master sheet that looks-up the orders less the sales. This will be your active inventory listing.

**Attach some data that you've created with the cheap barcode scanner and someone will be able to write a macro or assist better.

Thanks for your reply. As of now it doesn't do anything as I have not gotten that far. I have seen two options based on searches.

One is sorta like how you just mentioned. Doing a sales sheet and clicking on an active cell and scanning it in.
The other that I linked above the guy used a dialogue box where he clicks "Add" and then it has a text field and when you scan it goes in the field.

    It's a bit messy.

The second link up there hers apparently is automated when a barcode is scanned it automatically does everything. I don't really need that function.

My assumption is that the scanner when not plugged into USB collects a list of data as you scan it, then when plugged in it pushes that into excel.

I don't have the scanner yet, my Aunt is bringing it tomorrow. I had just planned to buy a system that had a scanner and software (Intelliscanner SOHO) but figured i Might try to save myself some money by doing it myself first.

I could definitely have Sheets like you mentioned one for orders where I scan them in and it auto adds that to the values on the "Current Inventory" Tab and then likewise a sales tab where it subtracts.

Let me maybe mess with my sheet and do a mockup maybe it will better help you guys.

    Appreciate it.

Okay after some thought I realized how much simpler this needs to be based on what I am doing. I put the instructions in the second tab of my updated document.

Thanks again for any help or direction

It is a bit long winded and confusing so I hope that it is understandable when reading.

Re: Inventory Mangement - Barcode Scanner

Well I ended up doing tons of stuff and striking out on my own ideas, but one of those links I posted above had a spreadsheet in it that worked by default. I edited it and added some vlookups and ifs to do some things I wanted and it works well for on the fly stock changes.

The only thing is it has a button that opens a list of buttons do to different things..and I have never messed with these form type things before.

I want to place new buttons that do what the buttons inside the menu you.

See example file. you click Manage Inventory then you have options here, I want to place those buttons as standalone in the spreadsheet. I've checked the code but no clue what to do.

I've only worked with buttons and macros before.

I don't know VBA so it is all a bit confusing..I tend to not be able to find all the code that pertains to things either. Any pointers on how to find this data in future to figure out stuff on my own would be helpful too! Thanks

This thread interests me and I am going to look into buying a barcode scanner (or maybe even use the app on my phone). The company that does our inventory counts has guns that keep a text file record on USB. They are able to enter the quantities in and adjust the s**tware to their liking.

This is a very efficient way ** tracking inventory. In the warehouse you can scan the actual palettes that the inventory is on along with the barcodes so you know the exact location ** the inventory too.

Re: Inventory Mangement - Barcode Scanner

My Aunt brought her scanner over and the form works flawlessly.

I can either put it in **fline mode and just scan all the items then later go into the form and do "Manual upload" and by going into the remove or add stock in the form it will auto do all the items when doing manual upload.

In live mode it works well to you just have to be in add or remove mode.

It is working perfect for me EXCEPT I want to be able to move the buttons out ** the Form Menu and put them on my sheet (for add and subtract) so I hope someone can help me with that.

I will attach my revised form but it's at work and I am at home right now.

And FYI I bought this scanner:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...A2KUZVNQ9LP7N9

My aunt had an old USB Wasp which was great..but it's corded. I want wireless so going with the above.

ALSO - Why the heck does the forum block out/filter the word "o f" (no space)?????

Re: Inventory Mangement - Barcode Scanner

Got the scanner in and everything works great and as intended..the only thing is I still can't figure out how to remove the individual buttons from inside the command menu (or form or whatever it is called?) to onto the page.

I attempted it but usually it functions only partly or not properly (me not copying all the right code)

    Attaching my current file.

Maybe I should make a new topic for that since it is party something else ?

This may be a year later, but thanks for the Sheet. I am liking the programming set up and would like to give credit where it is due!

Re: Inventory Mangement - Barcode Scanner

Not sure if this needs a new thread but I am curious if this does (or if someone knows how) to setup a spreadsheet so that I can print off a sheet of barcodes and then when I scan one (when I go to use it), it will remove the barcode from the master spreadsheet. Then when I scan it again, it will add it back to the master spreadsheet to be used again. Any help or direction would be appreciated.
