Question Using Excel in SkyDrive/OneDrive as a linked database

    Hi all!

I have problem. I need multiple users, each with their own Workbook to utilise data from a central database I made in Excel. I therefore need to put the central Excel database online and link to it. However, two issues so far:

    1) I don't have an online domain or server to put it, nor the possibilities to get one quickly
    2) Putting the central database into SkyDrive/OneDrive haven't been working so far, as the links are always local and not addressed on the OneDrive server domain.

    Therefore my question:

Is there any way I can use the cloud power of OneDrive to host a (fairly simple) database without my computer being turned on and running the workbook?

Are there any other solutions to this issue?

    Thank you,

    GregersDK

Is the file only going to be accessed read-only as a source of information and not updated?

If the local workbooks open the copy in the user's local OneDrive folder, would that work?

Have a look at this link and see if it will help. It gives examples for DropBox and Google Drive but the principle is the same.

Hello TMS, thanks for Your reply.

Optimally, I'd have two groups of users. A group which can edit and another which is read-only.

I'm not sure what you mean, but I understand it as I am sharing the database workbook with people on OneDrive (or other) and they then use their local addresses. It could in theory work, but if the addresses differ from user to user, couldn't that cause problems? I originally wanted to just share using Dropbox, but the difference in absolute addresses scares me a bit from using this. I do not want to individually help 300+ people after the program is released.

I think you forgot to embed the link unfortunately. :/

    Thanks, GregersDK

Dohhhh ... I went and found the link and forgot to insert it!

Display or List Special Folders Locations in Excel VBA

The link explains how to obtain the address of your DropBox folder whatever, based on the location of a Special Folder.
