Date Field Overflow Into Adjacent Cell

Is it possible to get a Date to overflow into the adjacent blank cell the way text does? I can only get ## in the cell when there is a date in it but text works fine. The date is derived from a formula, so it can't be hard coded. There's no way for me to adjust the column width either, nor do I want to merge cells (I need the cell to indent 1 space, so merging takes away that option).

Put this around your existing formula:

=TEXT(your_formula,"mm/dd/yyyy")

change the format string as appropriate.
