Validations messed up, saving takes ages-any utilities recommended??

Hi,

We’ve got this file which we call the ‘JL file’ which was originally in xls format (size: 62Mb). We converted the file to xlsm format (size 6Mb) as we had macros and then added some more data/formulas/validations/macros and some other sheets as well to the file.
The time taken by the original xls format file to open & save the document was negligible but the new xlsm format file seems to take forever to open & save the file. Also, time & again the data validation seem to get corrupted. We ran the open & repair utility only to find that it comes up with the message that the file is corrupted to the extent that it can’t be repaired.
We just wanted to check if there is a utility out there or any way that we can repair the file and reduce the time it takes to open & save the file and also fix the validation?

Could anyone please recommend any utility they can think of which might come in handy and their reason for the recommendation?

Also, can anybody please explain why we are facing so many problems when switching to xlsm format?

We are currently using Windows XP Pro OS (Pentium ® DCPU 3.00 GHz, 2 Gb RAM, Dell Optiplex PC) and MS Excel 07 SP2. We access the file from a Network directory.
