Need to count cells by color fill.

Is it possible to count cells by color fill in reg excel (2010)? I'm learning the basics and have been able to create some formulas to count cells by other criteria, but not color.
Also, I work on a gov computer, so I'm unable to download add-ins that are not previously installed.
Lastly, I have zero experience with Pivottables or VBA and don't have the time right now to learn these

There is no built-in Excel function that will tell you the fill color, so a formula can't refer to fill color. To do this requires VBA

Hmmm.....let me amend that by saying that there might be a Excel4 macro that can do that, outside my range of expertise. But it's still a macro, not a built-in function.

I got it figured out...more googling and learned how to create a UDF, which I guess is a VBA? Found it at:

Anyway, it works, so problem solved...for that specific task. Now I need a formula that will count the cells in the same column based on the text, but exclude the cells with same text that were already counted by fill color. Any ideas??
