Angry Column search question - text vs. formulas

Okay, I just spent the better part of an hour beating my head against the keyboard with this issue. I have two columns - Column A is plain text, column B contains a formula such that the content is derived from this formula. Let's say it looks something like this:

    column_a1_text column b1_text
    column_a2_text column_b2_text

If I click the top of column B and search for "text", nothing is found. Column A search just fine. The only difference is as I've stated, column B is a "calculated" value. Why would Find and Replace care at all?

Do you have to use the search and find or CTRL +F feature? If not use the lookup function

    CTRL+H
    expand "options"
"Look in:" change this to "Values" from default of "formulas"

Now find/replace will look for the cell output, instead of examining the formula in the cell.

Ya I am not sure as to the why but I don't think you can use CTRL + H or CTRL + F on a formula result unless you change the cell value from a formula to an actual value. You could change the values then CTRL + H to find and replace though. Just copy that column or range and pastespecial value over the same range.

    Winon,

I'll give it a shot. FWIW, the answer was provided by Ben. What through me is that this optional box varies based on the content of the cell you are on. Just learned something new.

    Thanks all.
