Copy several times the same block of cells

    Hi,

I am making a formulary with Excel. I defined a part of the formulary that has a defined format and formulas. I call that a "block". The idea is that this "block" should be copied an unknown number of times under.

In each of those blocks I have a cell that gives a number. I want to sum a total with all numbers from an unknown number of blocks. How do I do that?

    Thanks!

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Re: Copy several times the same block of cells

    Hi there,

I suggest the following. See attached Examplea.xlsx file. See sheets Formulary and Totals.

    1. Convert your data into a table and the format in the attached file.
    2. To convert into a table, select the cell range A3:F14 and press CTRL+T.
    3. With a table, you can keep on adding rows and subtotals will be taken care as long as the subtotal formula is in the last row of a block.
    4. Don’t keep any bank row within your table.
    5. I suggest keeping subtotals on the columns on the side of the table. There has to be one blank row between the table and the sum columns, otherwise, the sum columns will become part of the table.
    6. I suggest keeping the grand total in a separate sheet. The grand total will increment with every row added and therefore will every block added.
    7. You can simply add rows to your file by copying the rows (block) above (formulas will be copied).

See how you go with this.

Re: Copy several times the same block of cells

    Hi!

    Thanks for your help :-)
It was not exactly what I was thinking of, but it works very well. And I guess the simplicity is beautiful.

I will do it as you suggest, however I still wonder if what I wanted to do is possible. I wanted to format a group of cells (which might include one or several tables and other accessory cells with text) and insert it automatically (as one can insert a row in a table).

    What do you think?

    Hi Torete_1,

Thanks. What do you mean by 'insert it automatically' ? Do you want to inset a new block by coying the previous block (with formulas), or that is not the intention ?

    Hi!

The idea that the user can choose how many times appears a "block" in a sheet with a simple method. For example, introducing a number in a cell that indicates the number of blocks in the sheet. I don't want the user to mess around copying and pasting

    ;-)
