    conceptual forms question

I am creating some worksheets that will be handled by many people, different levels of access, different tasks, different levels of Excel expertise.

There are various checkboxes on the forms, which will frequently be linked to a macro or involved in some kind of action.

It seems like controls are the way to do that, except that they seem to sit outside of the flow of the spreadsheet: that is, you have to mouse over to them to use them, and then click on them.

I want something that you can get to in the flow of the spreadsheet, that you "land" on as you arrow-key or otherwise navigate the spreadsheet, and ideally that you can toggle with a mouse, spacebar, and maybe some other keys.

What's the right way to do that? And if it's controls, should it be Forms or ActiveX? It will be ideal to keep it simple and as backwards-compatible as possible (did I mentione "different versions of Excel"?).

    Thanks for your help!

    Keith

    Re: conceptual forms question

I prefer using cells as Check boxes and data validation for dropdowns. I am attaching a spreadsheet which shows a variety of ways to use cells as checkboxes. Most have a short macro linked to them to add or remove the checkbox on double click. They could just as easily be linked to more complex macros. Hope this helps.
