create unique invoice no and check against list

hi there

I would like to use a unique no for each job I do .
I can create a list of numbers in a invoice no work book and copy them into my estimate workbook.
is there any way to have the 2 workbooks talk to each other so that if I use a no it marks it used in the invoice no work book
then automatically select the next number

thanks Alan

Hi Alan

What do your Invoice numbers look like?
What do the 2 workbooks look like?

(sample WB's? please?)
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

what i have done before is in a cell on the non printing part of the sheet i would put the number one and in the invoice number i would do a sum then a quick macro to copy and paste the sheet into a tab between first and last and then it auto numbers. its hard to explain so i attached a very quick example for you to get ideas frominvoices.xlsm
