Conditional Statements to Reduce Column numbers

    Hello guys,

So I have attached a sample of data I have and what I want. Essentially I have 200,000 rows and a bunch of columns years(1900-2000). For each year I have a column with data for each month, ie January 1901, feb 1901 ect. I want to take the value from those columns that match the year and month the observation was made. So say the observation was made Janurary 1901, I only want that value to stay and want to get rid of values for all the other month/year combinations. It should be clear in the sample excel file.

    Thanks a bunch guys!!

This formula would be entered into cell F14 of your sample sheet. You then have to hit Control+Shift+Enter, not just enter to confirm the formula. You can then copy it down.
If you enter it with Control+Shift+Enter you will see {}on each end of the formula. This is done by Excel, do not attempt to enter these manually. If they are not there, then put your cursor in the formula hit the F2 key and try it again.
    Good Luck!!!

    Formula: copy to clipboard

Hi Jane (is this your real name?? )

Because you have Excel 2013 you have this great tool that may do what you need. It is called Table Slicers. You could click on Gulls and/or Raptor and only see them...
Watch a video at: http://www.bluepecantraining.com/por...ual-dashboard/ and give it a try.

Or http://blogs.office.com/2012/10/24/b...ers-on-tables/ for another page that shows it.

If Slicers don't do it for you, I'm thinking you might need some Column Type Slicer tool. Report back after looking at Slicers and let us know.
One test is worth a thousand opinions.
