Drop Down Menu to copy data

    Hey,

I have fairly basic Excel skills, and needed some help.

I am creating a spreadsheet that will grab data from a sheet that contains a bunch of rows of data

For example. In Sheet1, I want to have a list of drop down menus that I can select from.
In Sheet2, the data is kept. So Column A contains the name of the items I wish to have the in drop down menu (Lets say Option1, Option2 and Option3), and then Column B onwards contains the data. See here:

So when you go to Sheet1, say in cell B6, B7, B8, B9 and B10 I want a drop down menu. When I select Option1 in B6, C6 gets populated with Data1, D6 gets populated with Data2 and E6 gets populated with Data3.

(Green Cells I want to be Drop Downs)

If anyone has any idea how to do this, it would be great! I am using Excel for Mac 2011.

    Cheers!

Re: Drop Down Menu to copy data

Just a Vlookup() function will do that for you

Do a google search about Vlookup you will get lot of tutorials which will describe how to use it

Sure, a VLOOKUP could replicate the data, but I need to be able to select from a list of options from a dropdown menu, not sure how you'd do this with a VLOOKUP?

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to make it clear what is needed. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are demonstrated, mock them up manually if needed. Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and use the paperclip icon to open the upload window.

Created Validation List with the help of Offset() and Counta() functions.

Added Vlookup() to arrive the matching results.

Re: Drop Down Menu to copy data

Hi Sixthsense! Can I ask one more question! I'm trying to insert a pivot table to grab data from rows. See the attached sheet for an example.

The sheet attached is the actual workbook I'm creating, but there is no sensitive information in it. I am creating a meal planner, where I select the recipes I want, and it creates the shopping list for me.

So on the sheet "EXAMPLE" you can see that when I select a recipe, it populates the row with all the ingredients. So I want a pivot table to list the totals of each ingredient column (totals found in row 11) only when there is a value above 0. I'm not sure if I would need three pivot tables, one for Meat, Fruit & Veg and Pantry so they are kept separate?

Let me know if that example makes sense.
