After you set the date field how do you enter the date so it prints out in that format ie: ddmmmyy. And what is the best date for sorting and again how do you enter the date in the cell to get the format?
Thank you.

If you type 1/2/14 or 1-2-14 Excel will instantly recognise these as dates. If you want to change to 1 February 2014 format, change the cell format in the column(s) to "long date", either before or after entering the dates.

Thank Glen,
I worked at it so long yesterday. I have it set to custom at dd-mmm-yy but in order to get this result in the cell i type March 1, 2015 - if I do not put in the comma then I do not get this result. So this is why I am confused. And then how would I sort all the data to get from the earliest to the latest date without compromising my number??

Okay I just formatted the cell using custom - dd-mmm-yy and then typed in cell March 1, 2015 and this is what I got.
So are you typing in EXACTLY as written above: March 1, 2015
When I open this I see 01-March 2015. What do you see? i suspect this is USA vs RoW (Rest of World) date differences.
I see 01-Mar-15
... and you want to be able to see??
Is this the best way to sort information using the date field without compromising numbers. And do you know how to do that
Excerl can sort dates without compromising anything. That's not a problem. I thought you wanted the date in a specific format, but I'm still not 100% sure what your desired format is...
