Counting up if a number is higher or lower than...

    Evening guys,

Any help would be gratefully accepted, I've included a spreadsheet that should hopefully make things clear:

I'm looking to count up how many times the number in a column is higher than the corresponding number in a different column, so in D17 I want it to give me the total number of times the value in D is higher than C, and then in D18 the number of times equal to, and then in D19 the number of times it is lower than.

    and then

How I would adapt this formula so it only counts if the value Y is in column B; this would be in cells D21-27.

Many thanks for any help you can give.

    Hi

In B17 as an array formula - entered with Ctrl Shift Enter

    for B18 & B19 just change > to = & <

taking Y in column B into account then in B17

Many thanks for this, but I've spotted a problem on my 'live' data sheet. Any ideas how I amend this to ignore blank cells, e.g.
Sometimes there is no value in D, so I want it to ignore this, but using the formula =SUM(--($D$2:$D$16>$C$2:$C$16)) it counts it as being lower than C.

    Thanks

    Hi,

If D is blank then there's no need to alter the B17 or B18. B19 should be changed to
