Data comparision

Hi,

I have two sources of data, one spreadsheet which list out the names and provider name of a number of mutual funds (circa 961) and then another (25k funds plus) which will list out the mutual fund names and their ISIN codes, my goal is to try and link the funds in spreadsheet A to the ISIN code (as the provider does not have these) in spreadsheet B so I can upload these into a data base.

However, we have a challenge in that the provider of spreadsheet A and spreadsheet B may also have some spelling differences in the fund names (i.e they may omit the share class such as AC or the name may be longer).

So, I guess my question is how can I use excel to either link the funds (if possible) or make this task easier.

I do realise it is a rather broad question.

Any help though is appreciated.

You may get more help if you can attach a spreadsheet with some sample data. If three are consistent rules for the omissions, then it might be possible to do the lookups. If the omissions are random, then the best you can do is identify what does match and handle the rest manually.
