I used to be able to add a column by highlighting the column from top to bottom, going down a couple of empty cells and then hitting the sum key. Now this won't work for me. I can see it is adding but it doesn't print the total. Any thoughts?

Hello,
how do you see that "it is adding"? Which part of the screen?
What is in the formula bar of the cell?
Could you post a screenshot?
cheers, teylyn
Thanks for replying. I see you helped me with my date problem too. I will write tomorrow. I left work. I was trying to get the job done so I ended up making my date field a character field. I was reading the so-called help and found out my numbers were "serial numbers" I guess it has to be complicated for people who have complex projects. I was trying also to use a simple formula. I wanted to multiply the numbers in column a by the numbers in column b and put the answer in column c. So in column c I I put =5a*5b. I got a message saying I made an error and asked if I wanted the program to fix it. I said yes. Then I left the cell and nothing happened. The formula just sat there. I read somewhere that I needed to hit f1 and enter. That didn't do anything. I'll check tomorrow. I may need more help than anyone can give. A class might help. Thanks

TrySo in column c I I put =5a*5b
=A5*B5
Cell addresses start with the column letter followed by the row number.
1. It is seldom a good idea to convert real; dates to text dates, they become pretty much unusable in formulas and need to be manipulated back to real datesI ended up making my date field a character field. I was reading the so-called help and found out my numbers were "serial numbers"
2. All real dates in excel are serial numbers.
What you need to understand about dates and times in excel is...
a date is just a number representing the number of days passed since 1/1/900...and then formatted in a way that we recognize as a date. So, for instance, today (Fri Apr 2016) is actually 42475
Time is actually a decimal part of 1 (day), so 06:00 AM is 0.25, 12 noon is 0.5 and 18:00 (or 6 PM) is 0.75
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
