how to link to table in another workbook

seems simple enough but google results are very complicated many of which have vba. and results dealing with external links aren't working for me. I'm getting #name! errors when I try that method.

so what is the easiest way to accomplish this? let's just say I have a simple table 4x4 in one file, that I want referenced to in another, but keep in mind it needs to update and reflect the changes made in the original table. thanks

would you mind to attach a sample workbook with your formulas so we can take a look at what is not working?
I can't see why the external links would not work.
Where are your 2 workbooks? What kind of folder?

Thanks. There actually work. I'm just figuring out along the way about all of excel 's annoying little quirks and deficiencies. I guess there is no way to have your link area update itself to match the corresponding table reference no? I just want like a perfect ghost image of this table that I could convert into a named range in this workbook with the reference only. Get me? A ghost image of a real table from another workbook... with its own named range/table that updates it's content and dimensions along with the original in the other workbook. ... I believe I'm dreaming. So I'll work with what it has manually update my ghost named range and manually update the formats since the data arrives all fresh and white but stupid displaying currency where it's a date and vice versa.. I got it working tho. Thanks
