Colouring a cell based on a value in a different cell

    Morning,
Any help would be appreciated, thanks...

I have general text in column B. Column C is either blank or has a Y in. If the cell in column C is Y then I would like to colour code column B cell green, e.g.

    - C3 has a Y in, therefore B3 is shaded green
    - C4 is blank, therefore B4 is not shaded green

Thanks for any help you can give.

    use conditional formatting
    for 2007, 2010 , 2013 or 2016 excel version
    Conditional Formatting

    Highlight applicable range >>

    B2:B1000

Home Tab >> Styles >> Conditional Formatting
New Rule >> Use a formula to determine which cells to format
Edit the Rule Description: Format values where this formula is true:

    =$c2="y"

Format… [Number, Font, Border, Fill] fill colour green
choose the format you would like to apply when the condition is true
    OK >> OK

    otherwise
